Top Democrat politicians are pushing a conspiracy theory that President Trump may create an excuse to cancel future elections in order to stay in power, according to CNN.
Senior CNN political reporter and former Washington Post journalist Aaron Blake published an article on Tuesday, titled, “Trump canceling elections? Democrats increasingly sound alarm bells.”
Blake first mentioned a recent joke by Trump during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky where POTUS sarcastically suggested he could cancel U.S. elections if a war breaks out after learning Ukraine law doesn’t allow for elections during periods of martial law.
“So you say during the war, you can’t have elections,” Trump told Zelensky. “So let me just say, three and a half years from now – so you mean, if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections? Oh, that’s good.”
While the remark was clearly a joke, as even Trump noted the “fake news” media would likely have a field day with the comment, CNN wrote, “A growing number of them are arguing Trump will do something to either try to cancel or commandeer elections to keep his hold on power.”
The article continued, “That might seem ridiculous to some. Trump hasn’t explicitly said he plans to cancel elections, and he said last month he would ‘probably not’ run for a third term, which the Constitution forbids anyway. But the president has certainly floated such possibilities before and done plenty of anti-democratic things. And his extraordinary moves to take more control over the voting process and dispatch troops on US soil are already raising alarm bells. (A judge said Tuesday that Trump was, in effect, ‘creating a national police force with the President as its chief.’)”
Democrat Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker recently suggested that Trump considering sending the National Guard to address crime in Chicago is part of a scheme “to stop the elections in 2026 or, frankly, take control of those elections.”
“He’ll just claim that there’s some problem with an election, and then he’s got troops on the ground that can take control if, in fact, he’s allowed to do this,” Pritzker said, which cold reveal a Democrat plot to tamper with the elections so Trump is forced to do what they’re predicting.
“California Gov. Gavin Newsom floated a very similar theory last week,” CNN added. “Asked about his own plans for running for president in 2028, Newsom shrugged them off by casting doubt on whether that election would be above-board or even happen at all.”
CNN anchor Dana Bash covered the comments by Newsom and Pritzker, saying they’re sounding the alarm “that free and fair elections may not even happen.”
Bash spoke with former Obama Senior Advisor Dan Pfeiffer, asking him how Americans can be sure the 2026 midterms won’t “be messed with.”
“It’s the kind of thing we heard on the Republican side pushed by Donald Trump erroneously going into 2020 and others, but I haven’t heard Democrats this concerned,” she said.
CNN's Dana Bash treats incendiary Democratic Party conspiracy theory as truth. She commends Dems for "sounding the alarm" about Trump attempting to steal the midterm elections:

The left-wing establishment appears to be setting the stage for interfering in upcoming elections so they can cry foul when President Trump tries to ensure Americans’ votes are secure.
