In a bombshell revelation on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s “Judging Freedom” program on June 19, 2025, geopolitical analyst Pepe Escobar disclosed that Russian technicians played a critical role in helping Iran recover from a devastating Israeli surprise attack.

The conversation, aired from Russia, where Escobar was attending the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, shed light on covert international support for Iran amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Escobar detailed the rapid response to the Israeli assault, which targeted Iran’s infrastructure.

“There was active Russian help in electronic warfare to put the Iranian grid back together in those first 10 hours,” Escobar stated.

He emphasized the sensitivity of this information, noting, “I cannot write that. I have to be very, very careful. So I can tell you, I can go live.”

This clandestine assistance, according to Escobar, enabled Iran to restore its grid within hours and shift from “strategic patience” to a more aggressive stance against Israel.

“That is – as Tucker Carlson said to Senator Cruz when he said, ‘We bombed Iran’ – that is breaking news. You’re making news,” Napolitano asserted.

The revelation underscores Russia’s discreet but pivotal role in supporting Iran while avoiding public acknowledgment to maintain diplomatic cover.

The discussion also touched on broader geopolitical implications. Escobar highlighted Iran’s strategic importance as a logistics hub in Eurasia, noting that the attack was aimed to disrupt its integration with regional networks like the International North-South Transportation Corridor.

“One of the key objectives of this war is to not allow Iran to be transformed and enhanced as a logistics hub in the middle of Eurasia,” he explained.

This, he argued, aligns with long-standing U.S. and Israeli efforts to counter Iran’s growing influence, a plan dating back to the 1998 neoconservative “Clean Break” report.

Escobar also touched on skepticism in Moscow regarding U.S. intentions.

He suggested Russian intelligence agencies are increasingly wary of President Donald Trump’s double-dealing, with some believing his actions against Iran could foreshadow similar tactics against Russia.

“Look what he did to Iran, he’s going to do to us,” Escobar quoted Russian interlocutors as saying.

The interview painted a picture of a volatile global landscape, with rational actors like Russia, China, and Iran countering an “irrational system” led by the U.S. and Israel, according to Escobar.

He dismissed fears of an imminent World War III, stating, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This is like the worst possible modern version of a Greek tragedy.”

However, he warned that the stakes remain high, particularly for China, which sees Iran as a critical partner in its Belt and Road Initiative.
