A black student was found hanging from a tree at a college in Mississippi this week, with many leftists online claiming it was retaliation for Charlie Kirk’s murder, while officials have said they believe the student took his own life.
The incident unfolded at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., where 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed’s body was discovered suspended from a tree on Monday morning.
At a press conference Monday, university police announced they believed there was no foul play in the death and there were no further threats to the campus.
“At approximately 7:05 am, University Police was notified of what appeared to be the body of a Black male hanging from a tree (at) central campus near the DSU pickleball course,” stated Delta State University Police Chief Michael Peeler. “We later identified the male subject to be Demartravion Reed of Grenada, Mississippi.”
According to Mississippi Free Press, a coroner who examined Reed’s body said he found no indication of broken limbs, “Contrary to rumors on social media.”
“I saw no broken limbs,” Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Mark Roark told the Free Press on Monday, adding, “I don’t think I should probably discuss this any further than that, my opinion is that it was self-done, and I have reasons for that.”
Additionally, a press release from the Bolivar County Coroner’s Office stated:
“Based on the preliminary examination, we can confirm that the deceased did not suffer any lacerations, contusions, compound fractures, broken bones, or injuries consistent with an assault. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest the individual was physically attacked before his death.”

Police said an investigation into Reed’s death was ongoing; however, social media users insisted Reed was “lynched” and that his death could be linked to last week’s assassination of TurningPoint USA founder Charlie Kirk.
On Tuesday, U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) called for a federal investigation into Reed’s death, stating, “It is always a tragedy when a young life is cut short. We must leave no stone unturned in the search for answers. While the details of this case are still emerging, we cannot ignore Mississippi’s painful history of lynching and racial violence against African Americans. My deepest condolences and prayers are with Trey’s family during this difficult time.”
Despite police suspecting no foul play, Reed’s family has retained legal representation by notorious civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who has represented the families of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.
