The Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) just released footage and info about the bust, which unfolded at around 5 p.m. on Nov. 28 in La Salle County.
TxDPS pulled over a Freightliner rig after the driver traveled across an improved shoulder on Interstate 35.
Troopers determined the driver, identified as 24-year-old John David Amaya, was operating without a commercial driver’s license.
After a U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) K9 alerted toward the vehicle, authorities found 23 illegal aliens hiding in the cab.
The illegals, who were identified as citizens of Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico, were turned over to USBP custody.
Amaya, a resident of Laredo, was arrested and charged with 23 counts of human smuggling.
He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted of smuggling of persons under legislation signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in 2023.
Illegal border crossings have plunged to historic lows under the Trump administration.
