The 26-year-old man named William DeFoor who was arrested Monday morning for allegedly breaking four exterior windows and damaging a vehicle with a hammer at Vice President JD Vance’s Ohio home asked police officers to call him “Julia” when being apprehended.
“This was a HUGE surprise,” Infowars’ Alex Jones sarcastically remarked on social media, mocking the increase in transgender violence across America.
DeFoor has reportedly had legal trouble in the past and suffers from severe mental health issues.
The U.S. Secret Service and Cincinnati police arrested the culprit on Monday and charged him with damaging government property, engaging in physical violence against any person or property in a restricted building or grounds, and assaulting, resisting or impeding federal officers.
An Instagram page reportedly belonging to the suspect also shows DeFoor going by the name “Julia.”
According to an affidavit, federal agents saw DeFoor running along the fence line of Vance’s home before attempting to break an unmarked federal law enforcement vehicle’s window using a hammer.
Agents ordered “Julie” to drop the weapon, but he ran to the house, busted multiple windows and damaged a pricey government-owned security system.
DeFoor’s lawyer claimed, “I just don’t think there is anything political going on here, judge, it’s purely a mental health issue.”
The Vance family was not home when the attack took place, with the VP writing on 𝕏, “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I’m grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly.”
“We weren’t even home as we had returned already to DC,” he continued. “One request to the media: we try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service. In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows.”
DeFoor could serve up to 20 years if charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding federal officers.
