Former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton could be the next member of the Deep State to face accountability after attempting to undermine the president’s agenda, reports claim.
Bolton could face charges related to his mishandling of classified information, according to MSNBC:
The acting U.S. Attorney in Maryland is moving forward quickly to seek criminal charges against President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton, according to two people familiar with the case.
A complaint or an indictment could come as early as next week, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters without authorization.
A grand jury in Maryland has been hearing evidence for several weeks related to claims that Bolton improperly kept classified national security information in his Maryland home. But the pace of the case has recently sped up, the two people said.
In August, the FBI conducted a morning raid on Bolton’s Bethesda, Maryland, home “focused on potential classified documents agents believe Bolton may still possess, according to one source,” Fox News reported.
The raid was believed to be in connection to the publication of Bolton’s 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened, that reportedly contained classified intel violating his NDA.
Bolton’s potential criminal charges come as a federal grand jury this week indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on mortgage and bank fraud charges, following last month’s grand jury indictment of ex-FBI Director James Comey on charges he lied to Congress.
