The state of Indiana is working in partnership with the Trump administration to establish the “Speedway Slammer,” a new detention center for up to 1,000 illegal aliens.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced details about the facility this week as part of a broader push to secure at least 80,000 new beds for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is receiving a massive influx of funding following passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
The Speedway Slammer will be located at the Miami Correctional Center, a maximum security state prison that sits on the former Grissom Air Force Base roughly 70 miles north of Indianapolis.
“Thanks to Governor Braun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self deport now using the CBP Home App,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated this week.
DHS posted an AI-generated image on X that features a race car emblazoned with “ICE” decals and the number 5, which is ironically shared by Pato O’Ward, a Mexican driver who competes in the IndyCar racing league.
“We were unaware of plans to incorporate our imagery as part of yesterday’s announcement,” IndyCar owner Penske Entertainment said in a statement.
“Consistent with our approach to public policy and political issues, we are communicating our preference that our IP not be utilized moving forward in relation to this matter.”
In response, DHS dismissed the company’s claims as nonsense.
“An AI generated image of a car with ‘ICE’ on the side does not violate anyone’s intellectual property rights,” DHS stated. “Any suggestion to the contrary is absurd.”
The Speedway Slammer, which is expected to open soon, is the latest innovative partnership between federal and state governments to crack down on illegal immigration, coming just weeks after the launch of Alligator Alcatraz in Florida.
