Florida’s Brevard County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday a record-breaking drug bust they called, “Breaking Bad on steroids,” which was carried out in cooperation with the DEA and ATF.
26-year-old Maxwell Horvath was arrested for possession of 92,000 pounds of an opioid compound called 7-OH (7-Hydroxymitragynine), which is said to be up to 13 times stronger than morphine, as well as dozens of rifles and handguns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, grenade simulators, and five improvised explosive devices.
Footage captured by the sheriff’s office shows a warehouse full of industrial equipment and firearms.
Law enforcement officers said in a press release that Horvath was making his own “suppressors, fully-automatic weapons and explosive devices.”
The bust is “the largest of its kind” in American history, according to the sheriff’s office.
Palm Bay Police Chief Mariano Augello said, “It’s improvised explosives; five IEDs were located on this property … 50 pounds of precursor chemicals to make explosives. We’re not just talking about drugs or you know, illegal substances out of the streets but explosive devices that are utilized by the military and other countries.”
The suspect, who served two years of federal probation for charges related to explosive devices and drug possession in 2017, is now facing “36 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of possession of a short-barreled rifle, two counts of possession of a short-barreled machine gun, and more charges related to the explosives.”
Horvath will also face multiple federal indictments.
