On Friday Israel’s security cabinet approved Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take over Gaza City. The plan expands Israel’s military operations against the Palestinian state, a military operation which has faced allegations of brutal war crimes. Notably, the nearly-two-year-long war was triggered by the events of the October 7, 2023 attack in which Israel stood down.
Netanyahu’s office posted the key points of this plan:

Netanyahu told Fox News that Israel intends to take “full control” of Gaza.

Interestingly, while Netanyahu said he will take full control of Gaza, he also insisted that Israel would not govern the Palestinian enclave after routing Hamas, instead leaving the task to Arab nations. Notably, Israel has been “routing Hamas” for almost two years now.

On July 1 President Donald Trump got Israel to agree to a Gaza ceasefire deal. Weeks later Israel was still killing civilians in Gaza, only to officially abandon the ceasefire agreement later that month.
Gaza City has already been utterly destroyed.

“Hamas denounced the plan on Thursday, calling Netanyahu a war criminal and describing his plan to seize Gaza as ‘an extension of his genocidal and displacement policies.’ In a statement quoted by Press TV, the group urged the international community to intervene,” RT reported.

Netanyahu faced criticism from his own military and intelligence community on Tuesday for the plan of expanding the war in Gaza . Notably, the current state of Gaza was described as completely destroyed by retired Green Beret Lt. Col. Tony Aguilar who told Tucker Carlson about the Israeli war crimes he witnessed as a food aid worker. Despite Gaza already being annihilated, the Israeli pushback to expanding the conflict stemmed from a much more self serving reason.
According to Reuters, three Israeli officials said that the country’s military Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir argued during a tense three-hour meeting Tuesday that “taking the rest of Gaza could trap the military in the territory, which it withdrew from two decades ago, and could lead to harm to the hostages being held there.”
Yoram Cohen, the former head of the Jewish state’s intelligence agency Shin Bet said Netanyahu’s objectives in Gaza are “a fantasy,” explaining that killing every terrorist is impossible.
“If anyone imagines that we can reach every terrorist and every pit and every weapon, and in parallel bring our hostages home — I think it is impossible,” Cohen said.
