A biological male has been using the women’s locker room at an Idaho YMCA and authorities reportedly say there is nothing they can do about it.
On October 15, a lifeguard says she encountered a man in the female changing area at the Litehouse YMCA in Sandpoint, a small city in North Idaho.
“I was doing my locker room checks and found a man semi-dressed (he had a bra on and a towel around his waist) as a woman, coming out of the shower. I did not see his genitalia, but I could tell that this was a man,” stated Jennifer Hook.
Hook says she observed that the individual had a “male chest” under the bra he was wearing before checking for vulnerable females or children in the locker room and notifying superiors about the situation.
Several higher-ups told Hook it is “company policy” to allow “that” kind of intrusion on sensitive female spaces and presented her with documents affirming as much.
Hook states she re-entered the locker room, saw the male “preparing to do hair and make up” with a female companion, and notified them about rules against using cell phones in changing areas, with which the female complied.
Hook says she then phoned 911 and was quickly called back by a Sandpoint police officer who informed her no laws were being broken and there was nothing they could do.
“He also told me that if I wanted to make a difference that I needed to contact my legislature to make changes to the laws,” she said.
“I was beside myself to say the least.”
The state’s indecent exposure law would be difficult to apply. That statute requires “willful intent” to arouse to sexual excitement (lewd). The peeping Tom criminal law also is not written in a way that it could be applied.

Local schools use YMCA aquatic facilities and an official verified the incident occurred in an email to concerned parents.
“I can confirm that, as of last night, the YMCA informed me that reports are accurate — a man identifying as a woman has been using the women’s locker room,” the official stated.

Scott Herndon, a former Idaho state senator and current chair of the Bonner County Republican Central Committee, blasted the “repugnant fact” that men are being allowed to access female spaces at local YMCAs.
“These parents want to protect their daughters and hoped that in my capacity as Bonner County’s Republican Party chair and a former state senator that I could help them find a solution. At this moment, public pressure on the YMCA could be effective to cause the YMCA to change its corporate policy to immediately protect the privacy and dignity of girls,” Herndon told InfoWars.
“In the meantime, I am investigating options to make these acts a crime in the state of Idaho, based on changes we could make to our indecent exposure statutes.”
