Image Credit: Cook County Sheriff's Office A suspect with dozens of prior arrests has been charged with attempted murder after attacking an elderly man and shoving him onto active train tracks in the Chicago area this week, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday in the village of Forest Park, IL.
Police were called to the scene of an assault at the Harlem Avenue train station.
Responding officers found the senior citizen lying on the tracks very close to the electrified third rail, which carries enough voltage to kill a human.
A Blue Line conductor was able to stop his train before hitting the victim, CBS News Chicago.
After receiving a description of the suspect, officers located him a short time later on the platform and attempted to take him into custody.
Tommie O. Carter, 39, reportedly resisted arrest and even spat on an officer during the struggle.

Carter has been charged with one felony count of attempted murder and three felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer.
He has been arrested dozens of times since 2001, and was convicted of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in 2023.
The victim was treated at Loyola University Medical Center.
